Baby and cageJust when I thought my mantis photo-days were over, I walked out on the terrace, sat down to read the newspaper and this tiny guy jumped on my hand. I thought he was a mosquito and nearly swatted him away. When I realized it was a preying mantis, I got the camera and spent an hour following him around and -- apparent here -- occasionally propping him up. He's standing on the cage seen in the previous picture to give you a sense of his size. He's about half an inch long -- a little over one centimeter.
