LightersThis picture is the first in a series of five photographs of Victoria Harbour, sweeping from left to right. It begins with this close-up, followed by three wide shots, and ending with another close-up of the Bank of China and surrounding skyscrapers. Lighters are the fetch-and-carry boats that unload the many ships that come into port. The ships anchor off-shore and the lighters pick up their cargo and bring it to land. Their name comes from the fact that they make the ships lighter. I love that. |
