ToshiroDespite the beauty of the bananas, their flowers, and their wasp visitors, this has turned out to be one of my favorite photographs. It reminds me of a Japanese painting, or maybe a silk-screened cloth split in the middle and hung from doorway through which you pass into the garden.Although many of the other photos required a bit of speed, I was prepared for them -- lying in wait with camera and flash and knowing the wasps would come to dinner. It was only after I got back down on the ground and began looking for larger reference shots that I happened to see this fellow walking up a stalk and already above my head. I hit the macro button, thrust the camera high and fired off this single shot -- looking only to make sure he was in the frame. The result is serene -- another animal on his travels, surrounded by beauty and possibly hardship, but safe and moving forward for the moment. |
