Banana Bulb

I'd never seen a banana tree in action until I met this bulb.
     As it matures, it grows top-heavy and gravity takes over. Then the petals of this 18-inch-long (46cm) bud begin opening to reveal small clusters of baby bananas growing from the main stalk.
