Spider 1I've visited the banana grove many times over the past year and have never seen a spider -- so I was more than surprised to see this one. Climbing up on a couple of three-foot stacks of delicately balanced concrete plates, I stared at the web from about two feet away and wondered where its resident was. All of a sudden this beast crawled straight up an unseen webline from crotch level to right in front of my nose. Aiyaa! as we say in Hong Kong.
He or she is about 8 inches in diameter, perhaps 10 inches if totally spread flat.
